The TrailRider is a
specially-designed piece of equipment that allows people with
physical disabilities to get out and enjoy the wilderness
trails. Built using lightweight aluminum, the vehicle resembles
a wheelbarrow with two handles at the front and two at the back.
A large pneumatic tire allows the vehicle to roll easily over
rocky, rough terrain, tree roots and through streams. Two people
are required to assist the rider - one to push from behind and
one to pull in the front.
The TrailRider is designed to
maneuver through rocky terrain, up and down inclines, down steps (check
clearance before attempting) and over obstacles such as rocks, logs and roots.
The front appendages are removable for easier transport.
The TrailRider is available to
families for loan from Easter Seals. To reserve the TrailRider, contact the
programs office at 726-2622 or e-mail
