Hockey… it’s Canada’s
game. For a kid growing up in Newfoundland and Labrador,
lacing up the skates for a game of shinny on ice is as
warm a memory as you’ll find. At Easter Seals, we want
to make sure that the experience of playing hockey is
not limited to able bodied kids. |
Yes, its true. We bring Canada's game
to kids with physical disabilities. Just because you aren't
able to lace 'em up in the traditional way, you can still
crash the boards in a sledge. And ooh, the thrill of
icy wind on your cheeks and the thrill of playing hockey -
real hockey - by all the rules.
Josh had always
been self-conscious and withdrawn. He grew accustomed to
never joining in, never participating.
Not long after
strapping himself into a sledge to try hockey, though, he
realized "Hey, I'm the best player out here!" The
transformation from that point was remarkable. Increased
confidence. Fuller sense of self. Once Josh saw he could be
good as something, he became determined to take on a lot of
things.
