The Canadian Association for
Disabled Skiing - Newfoundland and Labrador Division, has
been offering skiing to young people with physical
disabilities throughout our province since 1976. Easter Seals
has supported the programs run mainly by the Corner Brook
Association for Disabled Skiing and St. John's Disabled
Skiing through the years.
In 2001 Easter Seals, with the
assistance of Ronald McDonald House Charities,
provided much needed equipment. The new equipment has opened
up skiing opportunities to many more children - children who
have the chance to experience something truly empowering.
Whether downhill or
cross-country skiing, the sense of independence, excitement
and exhilaration a child gets by setting aside their
wheelchair for a few hours, getting into an adapted ski and
zooming down the slopes, or skiing around the trails, cannot
be put into words. Virtually any child, with the right
equipment and instruction/assistance can ski. The smiles on
their faces say one thing ... "I CAN".

A group of Easter Seals kids enjoyed a
thrilling day on the slopes
at Clarenville's White Hills on April 2, 2006.
