The Ability Through Harmony Program
has brought the magic and joy of music to Easter Seals.
Kids with physical disabilities may be limited in
their ability to participate in mainstream music programs
simply because the design of the instrument requires
physical strength or dexterity the child may not possess.
The Ability Through Harmony Program applies
specialized instruments and specialized music instruction. |
Even when playing
percussion is the only viable option, this still gives kids
the opportunity to join in and express themselves through
music and song.
Participation in Ability Through
Harmony impacts not only the children who participate, but their
families as well. Here's what the mother of a two and a half
year old Easter Seals child has to say about the program:
“Ability Through Harmony
has been such a positive experience for our family. Our
little girl is very limited in what she can do but has
always been very responsive to music. Watching her face
light up when she hears the music and the other kids in the
room makes us, as parents, so happy. It also allows us to
experience the joy of enrolling our child in a program that
she enjoys, something we never thought we would be able to
do.”
