You’ve
seen the TV show, now live the adventure yourself! Who
would you do the Amazing Race with? Your husband, girlfriend,
sister, dad, buddy, co-worker? Decide, then sign
up!
The Easter Seals Amazing Race is a one day event being
held this year on Sunday, September 19 in Bay Bulls,
Newfoundland. Teams of 2 (girl-girl; guy-guy, girl-guy…
whatever, it’s your choice) will take to the water,
to the land and maybe even a little bit to the sky …
in the race of a lifetime. |
Like in the TV show, your team will be challenged
to get from checkpoint to checkpoint and defeat many
challenges and challengers along the way. You might
have to buddy up in a sea kayak and head to the point
to collect your next clue… you may have to hop
onto a mountain bike and careen into the woods…
military style obstacle course? Mud pits? Mental challenges?
Strategy challenges? Rapel? Who knows, we’re
not telling, and there’s only one way for you
to find out! Sign up!

This is the
old Pedal2Paddle for Easter Seals event that the Society
ran from Bay Bulls for the past five years. If you raced
in that event, you probably had a lot of fun. Well,
believe us, you haven’t seen anything yet! Split
your team of four into two teams of two and get ready
for the most AMAZING RACE of your lives!

Three Tiers – There will be three
tiers of competition. Yes, there will still be an EXTREME
race for the nuts that actually get into the idea of
mountain biking through hell for an hour or two; and
there will again be the ADVENTURE race for those that
don’t live and breath adventure racing and want
to challenge themselves without worrying about taking
out life insurance before the race. And this year, for
the first time, we’ll be offering a junior race,
for the new generation of adventurers. The Extreme and
Adventure races will be run simultaneously. You might
even find yourselves working together at some point!
The kids will take to a shortened course a little later
on while the bruised and battered adult teams relax
at O’Brien’s Stagehead with a cool refreshment.

Roadblocks and detours
– Check out the tv show if you don’t know
what these are! We’ll have challenges for one
or both members of your team to complete – and
we’re going to make it interesting – yes,
you can count on some physical challenges, but don’t
think for a second that the teams of brawny guys will
have all the advantages! We’ll make you think,
unravel puzzles, strategize, work as a team …
we’re not going to give it all away but we guarantee
you that you’ll have a blast and yes, you WILL
be challenged!

Remember last year’s prizes? –
Pedal2Paddle prided itself on providing some of the
best prizes to our winning teams and fundraising teams
of any race around. Once again Jonathon and the gang
at the Outfitters are coming on strong for THE AMAZING
RACE and have set us up with some AWESOME gear, up for
grabs to the top fundraising teams and winning teams.

 |
Great Grub! – Follett’s
Foodland is again on board with us serving up steaks
and baked potatoes for all the hungry adventurers after
the race.
|
 |
A
great race! – We haven’t
forgotten the basics of adventure racing – while
the AMAZING RACE will involve a lot more obstacles,
teamplay and various challenges, the race will continue
to be physically challenging. If you go for the Extreme
race, expect to sea kayak til your shoulders are numb;
expect to mountain bike across ridiculously rough terrain,
expect to run your butt off! If you sign up for the
Adventure course, also expect to find yourselves in
a sea kayak and on a mountain bike and running, but
don’t worry, those events won’t be any longer
than they were last year and, in fact, with the addition
of some of the other physical, mental, team and strategy
challenges, you might even find some of those legs shortened
a little.

All money raised through pledges by
participating teams will go directly to help out kids
with physical disabilities in our Province and to fund
great programs like the Easter Seals summer camps, sailing
and skiing programs and the Easter Seals direct assistance
services to help out families with children with disabilities.
